Global Challenge Pathways are Keele’s ground-breaking brand of elective study, which eligible students can take alongside their core degree programme to complement and enhance their studies at Keele. Each pathway is designed over the three years of undergraduate study, with students engaging with a global issue or challenge which connects them directly to societal issues, often working with staff and students from different subject areas.

Now, more than ever, we need our graduates to face the challenges of our future with confidence and critical insight. That's why at Keele, we've introduced a groundbreaking form of elective study known as Global Challenge Pathways. These pathways enable students to explore interdisciplinary topics over three years, alongside their core discipline or disciplines.

Our Global Challenge Pathways cover a range of critical areas, including:

  1. Climate Change and Sustainability
  2. Digital Futures
  3. Enterprise and the Future of Work
  4. Global Health Challenges
  5. Languages and Intercultural Awareness
  6. Social Justice

These pathways have been designed to address the most significant challenges facing society today. They are all underpinned by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, which provide a blueprint for a more sustainable future. From climate change to global health, social justice to the future of work, our Global Challenge Pathways empower students to develop solutions to these pressing issues.

Furthermore, our students will have the opportunity to connect cutting-edge research to real-world action. They will engage with and learn from external organisations and individuals who work on these challenges daily. As part of these pathways, students will also create a digital showcase to present their ideas and outputs, which they can carry forward beyond their time at Keele.

The intersectionality of our Global Challenge Pathways is remarkable. Each pathway offers unique connections to sustainability that you might not encounter in your regular courses. Through these pathways, you can develop your skills and contribute to vital debates within our society and at Keele University. These pathways offer an incredible opportunity to engage with sustainability in various dimensions, not only environmentally but also socially and economically.

We take great pride in this innovative approach to interdisciplinary education. Through Global Challenge Pathways, students are encouraged to address some of the world's most pressing issues. Our founding vision at Keele is to provide innovative interdisciplinary learning and teaching, ensuring that our graduates are well-prepared for the future. They leave with broad knowledge, a deep understanding across various disciplines, and a wide range of skills, making them creative, enterprising, and digitally capable graduates. Global Challenge Pathways represent the latest initiative to bring this vision to life.
