My name is Dr. Helen Price, and I'm a parasitologist.

I'm Dr. Lisa Di Comites, and I'm a social anthropologist.

Together, we are leading a large global health research project called Eclipse. Our focus is on a neglected tropical disease known as cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL), caused by infection with a tiny parasite spread by the bite of a sand fly. This infection leads to disfiguring skin lesions, which can take a long time to heal and may cause disability and stigma.

The experiences and challenges faced by people with CL may vary significantly across the world. The Eclipse team is actively working in Brazil, Ethiopia, and Sri Lanka—countries with distinct healthcare systems, cultural contexts, and socioeconomic challenges.

The primary goal of the Eclipse project is to enhance the physical and mental health of individuals with CL and empower affected communities to address the associated stigma. Our team collaborates closely with frontline health professionals and community health volunteers.

At the core of all Eclipse activities is robust engagement with local communities in Ethiopia, Brazil, and Sri Lanka. This ensures that our efforts are tailored to the specific needs and contexts of each region.

In essence, Eclipse aims to make a positive impact on the lives of those affected by CL. If you would like to learn more about our project, please visit our Eclipse website or follow us on Twitter.
