91% of Keele’s research in primary care has been judged world-leading/internationally excellent by the 2014 REF ranking Keele 3rd nationally. Our research focuses on four core areas of importance to the NHS; musculoskeletal disorders, mental health, multimorbidity and prognostic research. Our work has informed policy and practice by highlighting the importance of musculoskeletal conditions through demonstrating the extent, frequency and impact of pain and disability on individuals, and their increasing health and social care burden and costs for society. We have identified ways of preventing musculoskeletal conditions from starting, getting worse, or limiting people in their daily lives and activity, and have researched the provision of effective assessment, self-management and treatment of these conditions, in the community and in primary care.
