New Sport and Exercise Science course launches at Keele University
A new course at Keele will give students hands-on experience and an in-depth knowledge of the crucial role science plays in sport and exercise.
The new BSc Sport and Exercise Science programme at Keele is one of only a handful of sport and exercise degree programmes delivered within a Faculty of Medicine in the UK, and will give students the chance to merge scientific knowledge, hands-on practical experience, and professional practice.
Working alongside accomplished academics in Keele’s School of Allied Health Professions and learning in new facilities, including the University’s new Exercise and Physiology Laboratories, students on the course will develop practical skills to prepare them for careers in the sport, exercise, and health sectors.
The scientific and practical knowledge gained on the course can be used for a range of applications including in professional sport, helping athletes maintain peak performance; helping prevent injuries in both professional and amateur athletes; and using physical activity to help prevent and treat chronic diseases.
Dr Clare Pheasey, Programme Director for Sport and Exercise Science, said: “I’m really excited to be leading the new Sport and Exercise Science degree at Keele. We are offering a contemporary programme, steeped in Higher Education tradition - this means small class sizes designed to support students' learning, practical skills development, and future employability - all underpinned by the latest research.”
The course is part of Keele’s new Institute of Sport, which builds on the University's well-established and leading reputation in health and medicine, rehabilitation and exercise science, business, and psychology, to deliver the suite of new sports-aligned degree programmes.
