Keele joins prestigious European cancer research network
Keele has recently joined a prestigious European cancer research network as a stakeholder organisation, which will allow for new opportunities for research and collaboration.
The HPV Action Network, one of the European Cancer Organisation (ECCO) focused topic networks, is spearheading research which has the ultimate goal of beating cancer in Europe, with a particular focus on research into human papillomavirus (HPV) related cancers such as cervical cancer.
Dr Sue Sherman, a specialist in health psychology and understanding engagement with HPV vaccination and testing, has now led a successful bid for Keele to become a stakeholder organisation affiliated with the HPV Action Network, which will enable Keele to pursue new research and funding opportunities.
HPV Action Network has a three-year plan to map HPV vaccination and screening across the wider European region and it is also hoped that students enrolling on Keele’s new MSc in Psychology and Health Inequalities – led by Dr Sherman and starting in September 2021 – will be able to work on related research as part of their studies.
Dr Sue Sherman from Keele’s School of Psychology said: “This is an exciting opportunity for Keele to be involved in tremendously important work which aims to eliminate cervical cancer and other cancers caused by human papillomaviruses from the European region.”
